I just wanted to mention that I've created a page for myself at voices.com. You can see it here:

I'll probably post more about the lack of progress towards our surgery later.

Lack of progress? I don't want to hear that! :(

Ok, ok, I'm exaggerating. :) Cigna excludes MGB. So we asked our doctor to send in a letter requesting an exception to that exclusion on medical grounds. We provided her with what WE thought would constitute medical grounds plus copies of the supporting studies. She faxed that to Cigna Oct. 22. Their response, which they got, uhm, not this week but last week, said that they needed the letter from the surgeon with the specific details about the surgery, including CPT codes. We'd JUST gotten that last week. She faxed it to Cigna on Monday. So now we're waiting to hear back. What we're expecting is for them to deny authorization.

That means we need to get the state ombudsman and our benefits folks involved and appeal that decision. Which will be another long process.

I've just got seriously low morale right now. I've completely stopped exercising, and my blood glucose is just out of control. *sigh* I just want the damn surgery. That on top of Dad's heart attack night before last, and I keep finding the tunnel being extended, with the light tantalizing me from afar.

oooh well.... :)

I can't tell you how sorry I am that it's such a struggle to get them to approve it! When I consider how much my health has improved since my surgery -- how much less my medications cost (no more metformin, no more cholesterol meds, no more blood pressure meds....) I really don't understand why insurance companies keep fighting it. I mean, yes it's surgery, and there are risks with surgery, blah blah blah fishcakes, but the payoff is so great it far outweighs the risk for someone like me (and like you and Frank who are young and healthy except for the problems that the surgery will solve).

Hang in there, sweetie. You're in my thoughts a lot, as are Frank and your Dad. I'm here to listen any time you'd like for me to....

*hugs*

Well, to be fair to Cigna, if we were getting an RNY, we'd probably have had it done by now.

It's because we want to get a procedure that they consider experimental that we're having this hard time. :)

And if you had something like cancer, they'd STILL give you a hard time to get a procedure they may consider experimental....

Ah well. I really hope it works out for y'all! :)
